About

The Ten Cities project comes out of my graduate work at the University of British Columbia's Geography Department, and the subsequent thesis "The Ten Cities of Toronto."

Usually when we study maps, we take a single perspective, such as average income, or type of housing. This project asks how we can try to understand a city through many different angles all at once.

Through a multi-stage analysis, this project takes about 35 variables and builds a classification system of how neighbourhoods throughout Ottawa and Toronto can be understood as different types of "cities." This approach lets us think about how our cities are built, how they are divided, and how we can adjust urban policy decisions to support people living across these diverse urban landscapes.
