The City of Settled and Certain is a group of mature suburbs made up of mostly single detached houses and some apartments built mostly between 1961-1990. Of all the "cities" throughout Ottawa, residents make salaries closest to the Ottawa average, and have a relatively low proportion of both low and high income households. These neighbourhoods represent the bulk of Ottawa's first suburbs and are the home to just under 175,000 people, or 17.5% of the city's population. Housing is relatively affordable, with only 15% of households contributing more than 30% of their income towards their mortgage, compared to other neighbourhoods within the urban core. About one-quarter of residents use public transit to get to work, which is higher than the suburbs, but lower than most other city groups within the green belt. Compared to the city average, these neighbourhoods are more representative of racialized individuals, immigrants and people speaking a primary language other than French or English. Two-thirds of households are classified as families, higher than other city groupings within the green belt.
